Katharina & William
There’s no better place for a romantic Vancouver winter wedding venue than Swaneset, the iconic chateau surrounded by the Vancouver coastal mountains. On a cloudy day, the atmospheric view from the drone always gets that European castle vibe, maybe somewhere in Germany?
Which makes it so much more beautiful on this rainy winter wedding day for Katharina, who is originally from Germany but met William here in Canada. And no, the rain did not deter the lovely couple. We stayed inside for the whole day, a small but interesting challenge for us as the wedding videographers, but we love the results!
There was another element, a secret from Katharina’s mom, who contacted us one day before the wedding to let us know she had planned a surprise fireworks show for the reception! Normally we would have loved to fly the drone to capture the fireworks, which is always a glorious shot, but the rain was pounding and everyone had to stay inside to watch. So our last challenge for the day was to set up a variety of camera angles, to get the close up reactions (priceless!), over the shoulder (immerses the viewer), rotating gimbal shot (for the beautiful parallax effect), and the wide room cover to show the fireworks framed by the Swaneset bay windows, a unique perspective helped by all the guests in the shot.

Vancouver Winter Wedding Venue
Finding the right Vancouver winter wedding venue can be a bit of a balancing act. Vancouver winters bring beautiful moody skies, misty mountains, and occasionally enough rain to make you seriously question your hairstyle choices. That’s where a versatile venue like Swaneset can really shine.
From a wedding videographer’s perspective, Swaneset is particularly adaptable for winter celebrations. Its grand interiors provide an elegant and comfortable setting when the weather outside decides to be uncooperative, while the surrounding grounds can offer dramatic winter portraits (especially if you are lucky enough to get snow!). The large windows, sweeping architecture, and warm indoor spaces also give us plenty of opportunities to create cinematic footage without needing to spend the entire day standing under an umbrella.
One of the fun advantages is the possibility of using a drone indoors, where the space and conditions allow it. Smooth aerial movements through the venue can create dynamic establishing shots and transitions that make a winter wedding film feel much bigger and more cinematic.
As wedding videographers, we love venues that give us options. Swaneset allows us to move easily between intimate indoor moments and epic wide shots, keeping the story flowing no matter what Vancouver weather has planned. For a winter wedding, that flexibility can make all the difference.
So go ahead, book your wedding with VanWeddings, not only are we experienced professionals you can trust with your most important day, but we are also good friends who will be at your side for the journey, wherever it is.
